Correct Positioning of Newborn in Cradle Hold - Baby Pouch - Ring Slings is important because if your newborn is not positioned properly, he or she may suffocate or develop permanent brain injury due to lack of oxygen. Many parents of newborns assume that their baby will cry out if they are not in a good position, but not all newborns cry when they are uncomfortable or can't breathe.
Here are a few tips on the proper way to position your baby in a portable personal carrier:
- Position your baby so that their throat is open (at least a finger width between the chin and chest is usually a good rule to follow).
- DO NOT PUT ANYTHING OVER YOUR BABY'S MOUTH!!! Even if the fabric says that it is breathable fabric, keep in mind that is in reference to an adult, not in regards to a baby.
- The baby should not have their face pressed directly towards the parent's body when the baby is not nursing. Instead, have your baby facing outward. During nursing be sure that your baby's nose is open, and not covered by your body, or anything else.
